Outside Spaces

Oases in London: Notting Hill; St Paul's Cathedral; Woodland Camp, East End

Have you considered how outside spaces can be vital expressions of our faith? At Notting Hill we can see a mosaic altar in a space providing an opportunity for rest, recreation and education.

At St Paul's Cathedral, Canon Lucy Winkett reminds us of the historical experiences of church and its engagement with the locality. She speaks of 'a conversation between the building and the space around it'.

We are introduced to Woodland Camp which is church-owned, providing an opportunity to attract young people in particular.

This chapter is designed to inspire you to consider outside spaces (gardens, forecourts, noticeboards) as an extension of the 'spiritual home' more usually represented by the church building.
