Listed Buildings
Truro Methodist; Malton Methodist; Penrith Methodist; St Paul's Anglican Church, Bow, London; Chew Stoke Methodist
This chapter takes us on a journey around a number of very old buildings which have been updated to meet the needs of a modern community. Truro Methodist has considered the pitfalls of the pews and has changed over to chairs to allow more flexibility and creativity. English Heritage recognise this church as an excellent example of adapting a listed building.
At Malton we see how a congregation has captured a vision and given generously to a building project which has led to church growth.
In Penrith the church has embraced diversity. With the removal of a false ceiling and a new extension, they are able to be a community resource for many.
St Paul's in Bow is a beacon of vision and imagination and has journeyed from a building lacking basic facilities, onto an amazing space including an art gallery and health facility. Take a look at the fascinating architecture and see how it reflects medieval models of Church as a place of healing and patronage of the arts.
At Chew Stoke we find a remarkable blend of the old with the new and hear from church members the plans for final touches to the interior.
