Displaying Art

St Paul's, Bow, London; 'Colloquy' at Methodist Conference 2004

St Paul's in Bow hosted an exhibition entitled 'Eat Me', displaying the work of a young sculptor highlighting the issues of consumerism. The church leases a room to a local charity called 'Open Arts' which enables people from the local area to engage in the arts, perhaps for their first time, in the context of a safe place. With funding found locally the church has recently appointed a community arts manager.

Methodist Conference in 2004 at Loughborough University had a specially dedicated space for 'reverence, mystery, re-engagement and quest'. Contemporary paintings, sculpture and poetry were exhibited in a gallery, also used for music and performance. The inspiration was Rev David Moore's. He talks here of the art communicating between itself and conversing within the Conference. He asks the question, 'how can churches engage with arts?' and poses this as a question for your church.

The Loughborough project was named Colloquy and its progress continues into 2006. More details on David's own website www.david-moore.net
